When I was younger, the two most mysterious places in our home were our basement and my parents' room. Whenever I thought I was alone, I’d frequent them, hoping to never leave a trace, but the faces created in our knotty pine-paneled walls gawked at me anyway. On the days we were allowed in their room, my dad would usually have an incense stick burning between the panels of the wall and Grand Theft Auto loading on his PlayStation.
